Job Overview

The Guidance, Autonomy, Learning, and Control for Intelligent Systems (GALACxIS) Lab led by Dr. Abhinav Sinha in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati is seeking an excellent postdoctoral candidate in the broad area of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) of Multiagent Systems with a special focus on information-driven cooperative GNC of multivehicle systems. The successful candidate will work on emerging areas of autonomous multivehicle systems for distributed decision-making under constraints and uncertainties. This position is a temporary appointment. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of external soft funding.

Essential Functions

    • Conduct advanced research (theory, simulations, and experiments) related to motion control problems in GNC.
    • Ability to develop resilient advanced filtering techniques and advanced guidance strategies suitable for multivehicle systems in contested environments.
    • Ability to integrate data-driven methods with traditional control/estimation approaches with safety/stability guarantees.
    • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
    • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research results.
    • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations; may assist in grant writing.
    • Keep informed of developments in the field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
    • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
    • May teach techniques to others, and train and mentor junior research staff.
    • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
    • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in engineering or science (aerospace, electrical, mechanical, control, mathematics, computer science, or related field) with a research focus on systems and controls
  • Proficient in MATLAB and ROS.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Demonstrated research experience in cooperative state estimation, and cooperative localization techniques
  • Experience in autonomous flying of aerial vehicles in indoor and outdoor environments
  • Strong publication record
  • Ability to work on fundamental/theoretical problems in the said domain, and conduct validations/experiments in a single or multiagent setting
  • Must possess excellent communication and writing skills
  • Must be excellent in engineering mathematics for control
