Job Description

Job Purpose:
Participates in wildland, rural and structural fire suppression, repairs equipment, responds to emergency situations and assists with station general housekeeping
Job Duties And Responsibilities:
(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)
Responds to emergencies with assigned engine company
Assists in fire suppression rescue, constructing fire lines, overhauling, salvage, and mop up
Cleans and services fire fighting equipment and inspects and tests equipment carried on fire engines, ambulances, and crew carriers
Participates in company fire prevention inspections, hydrant inspections and service
Participates in building and grounds maintenance
Job Specifications:
Education and Experience:
Essential:
Successful completion of the following firefighter classes:
I-100, L-180, S-130, S-190
Successful completion of the Sycuan Wildland Academy
Possession of a nationally recognized CPR certificate
Desirable:
Possession of California Class C License in good standing
Essential:
Skills and Knowledge:
Working knowledge of firefighting equipment
Ability to use hand tools, chainsaws, picks and shovels
Ability to analyze information and use sound judgment under emergency and/or hazardous circumstances
Ability to work with a team and independently
Ability to maintain cooperative work relationships with co-workers and the general public
Ability to maintain professionalism and composure
Ability to represent the Fire Department in a professional and positive manner
Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
Ability to understand and follow verbal directives and written directions
Ability to perform under stress and in high pressure environments
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
Ability to accept constructive criticism
Ability to analyze options and choose the appropriate course of action
Ability to appear for work on time
Desirable:
Wildland firefighting experience

Note: Usually hired in April, May or June, as a temporary, seasonal employee. The length of employment may be up to nine months, depending on the duration and intensity of the fire season
